The Artists who create and Collectors who invest in plein-air paintings.

With the recent huge resurgence of outdoor painting over the last twenty years, more and more people are creating and collecting works done en plein air (in the open air). This feature is a work in progress...meaning, more data and rich content will be added. Enjoy, view, learn about and invest in the works of plein air painters.

Top five reasons artists paint en plein air

There are hundreds of reasons why artists paint on location. These five are what I have discovered are among the top of the heap:

  • To paint directly from life rather rather than using other means.
  • To interpret, not copy nature, architecture, people in their own way.
  • To experience the freshness and elements of being out-of-doors.
  • To paint in their back yard or across the globe in discovery of new colors, shapes, venues.
  • To strengthen, study and prepare for larger works in their studios.
